Everything you need to know, from choosing your wallpaper to paying for your order.
Wallpapers
We offer samples of all our wallpapers, murals and paints. To find them, simply go to the product you like and select the “Receive a sample” option for just 3 euros.
As a bonus, after your purchase, you'll receive a 5% promo code to use on your next order. To get a good idea of the final look, hang the samples in the rooms where you're going to paint: that way, you'll see in the actual light which one looks best to you!
Yes, there may be a slight difference! Screen light works with an RGB (red, green, blue) color wheel, whereas wallpaper printing inks use a CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) color wheel. The result may therefore vary slightly depending on your screen, the brightness of the room and exposure to sunlight.
That's why we always recommend ordering a sample before getting started: for just €3, you can hang it directly in the room and see the actual result, in your own light.
On each wallpaper product page, you'll find a calculator that will help you estimate the number of rolls you need for your project!
Yes, because we love endless creativity, our paints have been designed to match perfectly with our wallpapers.
We also offer harmonious colors to pair with our wallpapers: while they aren't perfect matches, they work just as beautifully with your decor.
Under each product page, you'll find at least one perfect match, as well as several harmonies to help guide your choice.
Absolutely! Maison Janette is proud to use only FSC-certified papers throughout its entire wall-covering range (wallpapers, borders, murals and headboards).
This certification guarantees that all our papers come from responsibly and sustainably managed forests. By choosing our products, you actively contribute to preserving the world's forests while decorating your home in style!
A mural is a large wall design printed to measure according to the exact dimensions of your wall. Unlike traditional wallpaper, which repeats, a mural forms a unique, continuous image: a true fresco that transforms an entire room.
Our murals are printed on FSC-certified non-woven paper, with a weight of 147 g/m²: premium quality for an impeccable finish and durability.
A few important points to remember:
- It is made specifically for you: no returns are possible once the order has been placed.
- Allow 8 to 15 days for manufacturing and delivery.
- Check your measurements carefully before ordering: we recommend adding 5 cm at the top, bottom and sides to allow for trimming. Every cm counts! If in doubt, our team is here to help.
For an optimal result, we recommend removing the old wallpaper and starting with a dry, clean and smooth wall. Installing new wallpaper over an old covering may create irregularities and weaken its durability over time.
For optimal installation, your wall must be dry, clean and smooth.
To find all the steps for a successful installation, don't hesitate to visit the “Janette's tips” section.
We always recommend it, even for traditional wallpaper! While one person installs and smooths, the other takes care of:
- Removing traces of glue as you go
- Pre-cutting the next strips
- Adding more glue to the wall if needed
- Running the cutter along the edges
In short, having a second pair of hands makes all the difference. And it's much more fun!
Yes, you can find all our advice in the “Janette's tips” section.
Glue is not included in your order, but Maison Janette offers one starting at just €9.90.
All our wallpapers are non-woven on non-woven: the glue is therefore applied directly to the wall, not to the wallpaper!
To make installation easier, Maison Janette offers its own glue, made from potato starch: eco-friendly and A+ certified, because it's going to live on your walls, and that's essential to us. Here's what makes it really practical:
- All-terrain: it works with all wallpapers, whether non-woven or not, regardless of their thickness.
- It's pink! Not by chance: the color lets you see exactly where it has been applied and make sure you haven't missed anything. It seems surprising at first, then you realize it's actually really clever.
- Smart format: the packaging is designed to cover 3 rolls, to limit waste.
If you have any questions about installing your strips, the “Janette's tips” page was designed specifically to help you.
Yes, it is perfectly possible to install wallpaper in a bathroom. Ideally, install it above a wood, tile or zellige wainscoting to avoid direct contact with water.
We also recommend having a window in the room: it allows you to ventilate properly and remove steam, preventing the wallpaper from peeling due to humidity.
Avoid getting glue on the front of the wallpaper as much as possible. If it happens: don't panic, you need to act quickly!
- Use a damp sponge or a moistened soft cloth (non-abrasive, with cotton being the limit).
- Use lukewarm water for cleaning.
- Clean from the outside of the stain toward the inside, so as not to spread the affected area.
- Absorb excess moisture with paper towel or an absorbent cloth.
- If the stain persists, add a mild detergent, such as Marseille soap, to your cleaning.
During installation itself, you can still reposition the wallpaper as long as the glue has not dried. Once the glue is dry, you can easily remove the wallpaper, but it cannot be repositioned.
That's why we encourage you to carefully follow the installation instructions found in the “Janette's tips” section.
It is not recommended. Our wallpaper is designed to be enjoyed in its original colors and details, and a coat of paint could alter the texture and appearance of the pattern. If you want to change your decor, the simplest option is to remove the wallpaper and install a new one.
Maison Janette does not install the wall designs. But we have everything you need to help you do it yourself: find all our tips in the “Janette's tips” section, and plenty of step-by-step videos on our Instagram account to make sure you have all the right reflexes before getting started.
Paints
Good to know: paint should always be judged and appreciated once dry!
Yes, there is a slight difference! Light works with an RGB (red, green, blue) color wheel, whereas paint uses a CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) color wheel. That's why we recommend ordering a sample beforehand, for just €3, directly from the product page of the paint you're interested in.
It all depends on the look you want and how the room will be used.
Matt (0 to 2% gloss level) offers a powdery, chalky, very mineral effect. It softens wall imperfections and fully expresses the depth of the colors. Ideal for bedrooms, living rooms and ceilings.
Velvet (10 to 15% gloss level) is more versatile: washable and depolluting, it is perfectly suited to bathrooms, hallways and high-traffic areas. It is also the ideal choice for raw wooden woodwork.
If in doubt, Velvet is a safe choice for almost every room!
Our paint covers 12 m² per liter per coat. Taking into account the recommended 2 coats, one liter will cover approximately 6 m².
To calculate easily: measure the height of your walls, multiply by their length, divide by 6, and you have the number of liters needed. Don't forget to subtract the area of doors and windows!
Absolutely! All our paints are water-based, A+ certified for indoor air quality, and have a very low VOC content. They are therefore perfectly suited to children's bedrooms.
- Matt range: very low VOC content (21 g/L), A+ certified.
- Velvet range: very low VOC content (9 g/L), A+ certified and depolluting. As it dries, it captures and neutralizes certain polluting molecules present in the air: a real little plus for rooms where your little ones sleep!
Yes! Our paints are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, on walls and ceilings. For any questions about a specific surface, don't hesitate to contact us at bonjour@maison-janette.com.
Yes, our Velvet paint works very well on radiators! There is just one condition: the radiator must be completely cold when applying the paint. We advise against painting a hot or warm radiator, as the paint may blister or peel off quickly.
Our Velvet range works very well on woodwork and furniture. Two conditions:
- The wood must be raw (unvarnished, unpainted).
- On heavily used surfaces (furniture, doors, etc.), always finish with 1 to 2 coats of matt varnish after your two coats of paint to prevent flaking.
We also offer our own varnish, made by our paint supplier with more than 150 years of expertise. A professional product, following the same quality standards as our paints.
Good preparation is 50% of the final result. Here are the steps you shouldn't skip:
- Clean the wall: remove dust, grease or moisture marks. A clean wall is the foundation.
- Fill holes and cracks with filler, then let it dry completely before sanding.
- Sand lightly to obtain a perfectly smooth surface and promote paint adhesion.
- Mask baseboards, windows and anything you don't want to paint.
- Lay down your protective sheets on the floor and furniture.
If your wall is new or very porous, remember to apply a primer before the first coat of paint: it seals the surface and ensures a more even finish.
We recommend the Matt finish for your ceilings! With a gloss level of 0 to 2%, it hides minor imperfections and prevents unsightly light reflections on the ceiling. The result is clean, even and really beautiful.
- For rollers: 10 mm polyester microfiber (a classic!)
- For cutting in: a brush specifically designed for water-based paint (because we like things precise)
The Maison Janette team tip: before each use of your roller, wrap it with masking tape, then pull it off to remove all the loose hairs that could end up on your wall!
Always from top to bottom, in this order:
- The ceiling first
- The walls
- Baseboards and woodwork last
That way, any splashes from the ceiling fall onto walls you haven't painted yet: you can fix them at the next step. Clever!
Two coats are sufficient in the vast majority of cases, thanks to the high covering power of our paints. Start with a coat of primer if your wall is new or very porous, then apply your two finishing coats.
Special case for reds and pinks: red pigments are among the most difficult to cover, regardless of the paint brand. Starting with a classic white primer may force you to apply three or four coats. The pros' trick (Farrow & Ball, Little Greene…):
- Prepare a tinted primer by mixing white with a little of your red or pink color
- Or use a warm gray as a base
This way, the wall starts with a shade close to the final color, and two finishing coats are enough for a full and even result.
Before you start:
- Pour the paint into a paint tray, don't dip directly into the pot.
- Load your roller well, then lightly squeeze it in the tray to distribute the paint evenly. Not too dry, not dripping!
- Don't press hard: let the roller do the work, that's what it's there for.
The section-by-section technique:
- Draw a “W” with your roller over approximately 1 m².
- Cross your strokes: first horizontally, then vertically, to distribute the paint evenly.
- Finish by running the roller in one direction only (top to bottom) to smooth the surface and avoid marks.
- Repeat m² by m² while always keeping a wet edge: never let an edge dry before continuing next to it, otherwise the join will be visible.
Remember to use masking tape to protect the areas you don't want to paint. Cover the floor and furniture with protective sheets, and wear clothes you don't mind getting stained. Use a small amount of paint on your brush or roller, and don't press too hard!
Not all masking tapes are created equal. Low-quality tape can:
- Allow paint to seep under the edges
- Adhere poorly and move during application
- Pull off existing paint when removed
We recommend paint-specific tapes such as Frogtape or 3M: the difference really shows in the final result.
The golden rule: always remove the tape while the paint is still fresh, never once it has dried. Pull it gently at a 45° angle for a clean edge without damage.
Runs can be avoided by applying a thin, even coat without overloading the brush or roller.
If you're using masking tape: never let the paint dry before removing it, otherwise you're in for trouble! Remove it directly after finishing painting.
Pro tip: stick the tape down firmly, press properly so it adheres, then paint a thin coat with the upper wall color before tackling the lower one.
Load your brush well with paint (yes, a lot, don't be afraid!). Preferably use an angled brush.
Flatten the bristles well while at the same time flattening the “ridge” of paint with your roller. A real masterstroke!
The paint is touch-dry in 1 hour. But to apply the second coat in good conditions, wait at least 8 hours: enough time for the first coat to dry thoroughly.
Don't try to go too fast: applying a second coat too soon can create marks or lift the first coat. Patience is the secret to a beautiful result!
- Matt range: gentle cleaning with a damp sponge or soft cloth. No heavy scrubbing.
- Velvet range: washable, it can handle more thorough cleaning with a damp or slightly soapy cloth.
In both cases, avoid abrasive products and scouring sponges that could damage the finish. In case of a stain, act quickly: the fresher it is, the easier it is to remove.
- First, scrape off the remaining paint as if you wanted to save every last drop. Eco-friendly and economical!
- Rinse the brushes once with water.
- Second round: soapy water to clean them thoroughly!
- Rinse until the water runs clear, like after a good wash!
The Maison Janette team tip: lukewarm water is more effective!
The best thing is to keep some of your original color in the pot. Our paint keeps for 1 year, and since the color can vary slightly from one manufacturing batch to another, working with the same pot guarantees a perfectly uniform result.
If you no longer have any paint, order the same reference and apply the touch-up to the entire wall section rather than just the damaged area: this will avoid any halo effect.
Maison Janette paint keeps for 1 year. Remember to close the pot tightly after each use and store it in a dry place, protected from frost.
Close your pot tightly and store it in a dry place, protected from frost. Keep it carefully for any future touch-ups; it's always more convenient to have the same batch on hand.
And when it's time to throw away an empty or unusable pot: paint pots must only be taken to a recycling center, never put in the regular trash or down the sink. Keep that in mind!
All our paints are water-based and A+ certified, which guarantees very low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions. They are therefore perfectly suited to a bedroom!
- Velvet range (A+ and depolluting): with good ventilation throughout the day, you can sleep in the room again the following day.
- Matt range (A+): wait 48 to 72 hours with regular ventilation, until the smell has completely disappeared.
